All Christians are called to share in Jesus’ ministry of intercession. The ultimate in intercession is to offer one’s life for others as Jesus did. His self-sacrifice continues to be made present at every Mass. By offering ourselves to the Father together with the Body and Blood of Jesus, and at the same time living each moment at the service of others, we become like the Eucharist – that is, we become a source of life for others. This is the essence of Christianity: only when we are filled with the love of Jesus can we take up the daily cross of intercession, helping to open the gates of heaven to others.
